Some time around the start of September 2022, I decided to register for an ASN. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but I thought it would be fun to have one.

I was right, it was fun. I got to play around with BGP, and I got to see how the internet works from a different perspective. I also got to see how much of a pain in the ass BIRD is and probably shortened my lifespan a little with the stress of keeping it working.

But! that isn’t the reason I’m saying goodbye to my beloved AS203024, and instead the reason is a lot more boring — money. It now costs ~£100/year to maintain an ASN, which is hardly anything in the great scheme of things but does tip the balance for me when it comes to “paying for a shitpost opportunity” :D

So, sometime soon, AS203024 and its assigned IPv6s will be no more. Safe travels ‘024, and fuck you BIRD :P
